Tuesday 06m Walking Group - next 2 walks

21 Apr Leader Mike Hill.
Start 10am from Staunton Harold reservoir car park, Heath End Lane, just off the B587 near Dimminsdale Nature Reserve, What3Words https://w3w.co/unroll.trinkets.shade
It is a 7 mile route with 700ft of ascent going through Spring wood, then past the Jonny Vegas Glamping site to Melbourne Hall for a toilet and coffee stop. We then follow the Cross Britain Way up to Breedon Hill church, then past Scotland's farm back to our cars.   SK
19 May Leader Graham Law - The medieval bridges of Rothley brook - further details will follow.
Starting from Cropston, we will cross the Rothley brook four times via ancient pack horse bridges dating back 500 years. All the bridges are registered ancient monuments.
We will go through old parts of Anstey then return through Castle Hill park and back through Thurcaston to Cropston. Around 6 miles.
Meal option to be investigated. Possibly the Wheatsheaf at Thurcaston.   SK

Thursday U3A 6-milers - next 2 walks

23 Apr Will be led by Martyn Speight. With its usual 10am prompt start, it will start from the Queens Head in Belton. This pub is on Long Street, Post Code LE12 9TP and What3Words staining.relocated.toddler.
The pub will not be open at 10am but lunches, off either their Lighter Lunch or Main Menus, can be pre-ordered. Thursday is actually their 'pie' day.
For those staying for lunch, the pub car park can be used. Alternatively, there is parking on the adjoining streets. Please park considerately for the local residents.
The walk, which is mainly on paths across fields but with some sections on quiet lanes, will go west to Cloud Wood. It will then skirt te adjoining Cloud Quarry and Worthington before returning via Osgathorpe. The stile count is(just into) double figures and the walk is around 6.25 miles long. There are no particular hazards other than needing to be careful when negotiating stiles and when crossing, and walking, along the short sections of trafficked roads. Many of the fields are grassed, some possibly with grazing cows. There is one field where rape pollen may be of concern to any hay fever sufferers.   SK
